Supplemental Declaration of Municipal Emergency
Executive Order 2020-024
May 7, 2020
WHEREAS, on March 9, 2020, the State of Rhode Island Governor, Gina M. Raimondo, issued Executive Order 20-02 declaring a state of emergency due to the outbreak of COVID-19; and
WHEREAS, on March 15, 2020, Mayor Roberto L. DaSilva, issued Executive Order 2020-004 declaring a state of municipal emergency due to the outbreak of COVID-19; and
WHEREAS, the East Providence City Council ratified the Declaration of Municipal Emergency at a meeting on March 17, 2020 and authorized its extension through May 19, 2020 on May 5, 2020; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to extend certain previous Executive Orders so that they may remain in full force and effect during this state of municipal emergency.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Roberto L. DaSilva, by virtue of the authority vested in me as the Mayor of the City of East Providence, pursuant to the Rhode Island General Laws and the Home Rule Charter of the City of East Providence, do hereby order and direct the following:
The following Executive Orders shall hereby be extended until May 19, 2020:
- E.O.2020-009, close-contact businesses, set to expire May 8, 2020
- E.O.2020-010, suspension of dog license renewal, set to expire May 8, 2020
- E.O.2020-011, suspension of plastic bag ban, set to expire May 8, 2020
- E.O.2020-013, stay at home order, set to expire May 8, 2020
- E.O.2020-014, extension of E.O.2020-005 (closing all dine-in and beverage services) and E.O.2020-008 (allowing Class B licensees to sell up to two bottles of wine and 144 ounces of beer in original factory sealed containers with take-out food orders) set to expire May 8, 2020
- E.O.2020-016, closure of city hall, set to expire May 8, 2020
- E.O.2020-018, requiring employees of customer/client facing businesses to wear masks or cloth face coverings, set to expire May 8, 2020
- E.O.2020-019, extending city tax sale process until June 18, 2020, suspending penalties for late payments, and suspending deadlines to file for tax exemptions, set to expire May 8, 2020
- E.O.2020-020, requiring customers to wear masks or cloth face coverings in store/giving businesses a right to refuse service for violation, set to expire May 8, 2020
- E.O.2020-021, closing East Providence Housing Authority to the public, set to expire May 8, 2020
This Order shall take effect immediately and remain in full force and effect through May 19, 2020, unless extended by and with the consent of the City Council, or amended by a subsequent Order.
