Kent Heights Water Storage Tank Improvement Project
The City of East Providence will be making improvements to its Kent Heights Water Storage Tank Site (located on Walmer Avenue between Dover Avenue and Clyde Avenue) over the course of the next 18 months. The work will involve demolishing the existing 8 million gallon steel water storage tank, construction of a new 6 million gallon concrete water storage tank, and construction of a new treatment facility and associated pipe work. This work is part of the City’s larger water system upgrades project that has the ultimate objective of improving water quality throughout the City. The City’s contractor for this work is Preload, LLC. of Hauppauge, NY.
HOW WILL THIS WORK AFFECT YOU?
All construction activity associated with this project will take place within the existing Kent Heights Water Storage Tank Site located on Walmer Avenue, between Dover Avenue and Clyde Avenue. As part of construction, the contractor will be performing a significant amount of demolition, earthwork, piping upgrades, and finally tank construction on the existing Kent Heights Tank Property. Nearby Residents may notice tree clearing at the Kent Heights Tank Site, this is necessary to allow for the construction of the new 6 million gallon water storage tank. At the completion of the project the City will be planting new mature hardwood trees at the completion of the project. Local residents may notice noise associated with construction between the hours of 7am and 5 pm Monday through Friday. The contractor may also be working on select Saturdays in an effort to reduce the duration of the project.
It is not expected that this project will disrupt water service to any customers; however, it is possible, due to unforeseen conditions that customers may experience temporary water service disruptions that will last between 4 and 8 hours. Customers will receive advanced 24-hour notice before this occurs. PLEASE WATCH YOUR STEP!
You may notice trench openings in the street and construction vehicles entering and leaving the Kent Heights Tank Site. Please watch your step. If you see any potentially hazardous situations, please call us. All trench openings will be filled in and resurfaced at the earliest possible time. All steel road plates, debris, and materials will be picked up as soon as possible after the work is complete. Temporary asphalt patch will be installed as soon as possible and will be replaced by a permanent patch at later stages of the project. Every possible safety precaution will be taken while the project is in progress. All work areas will be barricaded and carefully marked to prevent accidents or injuries. You can help to avoid accidents by cautioning your family and friends to watch their step and avoid the work areas as much as possible. Please do not enter the tank site during construction.
ANTICIPATED ROAD CLOSURES
Please note the Contractor is planning on utilizing Walmer Avenue between Dover Avenue and Clyde Avenue as part of their staging area. Residents please be aware that this section of Walmer Avenue will be closed to through traffic during construction.

Clear, clean, high quality drinking water is our ultimate objective in all this activity. We realize that there are going to be some inconveniences during the project such as noise, dust, and possible water shutdowns. We will strive to minimize these inconveniences on our customers. However, these inconveniences are short term and are required to meet our long term objective of continuing to provide clean and safe drinking water to your homes.
